SCRAM!
by Suhas 6B

Some boys are sensitive and some girls are dare-taking. Jake and Carly, 11 year old twins, were like that. Jake was a scaredy-cat. He had jade green eyes and wavy red hair. Carly was always ready for an adventure. Her eyes were sky blue and had short blonde hair. She had a freckled face. They were

moving into their new duplex with their parents. The duplex was mustard yellow and had a white slanted roof. They moved in, Carly explored outdoors and Jake read books in his new room. Everything was normal.

One day, Carly and Jake were searching for fossils. They hadn’t made any friends yet, so they often played amongst themselves. A man came out of the brick red window beside their duplex. He was quite old, probably eighty. He came up to the twins and said as quiet as a mouse “The duplex you are living in is haunted,” he whispered, “Beware.” The twins had a face that said, “What the heck?” The strange man walked away. Carly was the first to recover, “Come on Jake, let’s find...”, she said in a gravely tone to scare Jake, “a GHOST!” Jake shivered, not because of what Carly had just said, but the sudden pinch of the cold gust of wind that had suddenly sprung out of nowhere.

The twins ran as the first raindrops fell on their cheeks. Unfortunately, Jake had tripped on a mysterious stone, which neither of the twins had seen before. Even in the soaking rain, Carly managed to read an inscription on the rock. Carly smiled evilly as she read the inscription out loud, “Your doom awaits you in the attic!” They rushed back home.

Jake gulped. Any second now, a crazy Carly will find a ladder somehow to climb up to, which is now a death-defying attic, is right above their heads. All this made Jake dizzy and he fell to the floor.

The scorching voice of his sister woke him up, “Jake, wake up you sleepy-head, we have beds you know!” Carly pulled Jake by his hand up the wooden staircase. A ladder was waiting for them. Jake had a bewildered look on his face and Carly had the total opposite, a smile. Carly pulled up the ladder and opened the creaky, cacophonic attic door. Thud, Thud, Thud went the footsteps of Carly.

It was a vile, dark place, with cobwebs here and there. The floorboard was a dark, wooden color. Almost suddenly, a spectre appeared. Carly felt the urge to scream...

“Aaaaah!!” Jake heard her sister scream for the first time in his life. Then he heard some muffling and other screams. He decided he must go up to see what was happening.

He went up the ladder and opened the attic door. It was a dark room. Only his sister was there. She was quite different now. She had ghostly white hair and skin paler than ever. Her eyes were red as blood and nails grew extremely long. She looked as if she was taken over by a ghost. “Scram!” hissed Carly at her own brother.
